Excellent piece! Just shared it with everyone in my reader :) I agree with you, any spending done by the government for the sake of the economy is a bad idea. It does little good in the long run; or even in the short run, as we're seeing now.

Free market corporations are free to beg all they want, but that doesn't justify government overstepping its bounds. Once they do, it is no longer "free market."

The fact of the matter is our friends over in Washington pull more than a few strings within the American economy. What we really have is crony capitalism, a form of fascism, meaning private ownership with government control. We also have elements of state socialism in our economy, which is public ownership with government control.

Thomas Dilorenzo, a professor of economics at Loyala University, has defined our economy the best : its fascialism, a mix of both fascism and socialism. Certainly no where close to laissez-faire capitalism and individual rights.

The Federal Reserve is not a free market institution either. Alan Greenspan cannot possible be considered a real advocate of free markets if he thinks it is the government's job to print money.

I recommend reading Thomas Woods book "Meltdown" for a good overview on the current economic situation our country is facing

Complete and total garbage.

Lets remember that it was the free market corporations that came to Washington begging for the people to save them. It was Alan Greenspan himself who said that he was wrong in assuming the free market would weed out the corruption.
