LSD: The Beyond Within
Categories: Psychology

It’s the realm of mystical experience. And those who’ve been there describe the visit as the most significant event of their lives. Until recent times that was a world known only to holy men, to saints, or perhaps to the insane. Then a generation ago this drug, LSD, escaped from the laboratory. It was consumed by millions of young people. To some it’s a doorway to the mystical universe, chemical ecstasy, enlightenment in a bottle. To others it’s a dangerous and subversive poison.”

“LSD is one of the strangest and most controversial substances known to science. A dose smaller than a grain of salt precipitates a hazardous mental journey into a universe of hallucination, intense emotion and, some believe, mystical revelation. These remarkable effects were discovered by the Swiss chemist Albert Hoffman in 1943. During the 50′s the LSD was used widely for research in psychiatric hospitals. Than in the early 1960′s LSD leaked out of the laboratory. With bizarre and unforeseen consequences the drug was consumed by a generation of young people seeking spiritual transcendence and an escape from the conventional world.”

hello, i just viewed the above film on LSD, i found myself yelling at the supposed authorities on the reason it was used as a reason to lay blame, why these authorities had to pretend that they held the real values that allowed them to demonize this psychedelic drug.Yes, there are always dangers, to any experience that we have in this world that takes us into other worlds. However what is the real danger that holds us back from the threshold? At any rate, i myself explored this great event that crossed into my world as a teenager in the late 60's.And is i am a poet/writer I recently self-published a poetic novel on this very subject, from the point of view of a teenager in the late 60's, i describe a series of LSD trips from that perspective, and from the perspective of the poet in the future. It also describes the magic that was in the air in those wild times, the sexual revolution, and the music.the novel is Called Gone Hallucinogen Freeway and it is on Amazon.

Never thought that LSD's exist even in the 50's. It's scary that young people started using this the wrong way.

Is it a classified drug then having psychedelic effect to whoever takes it in? My mom is not even aware of what that LSD is, she said she never know what it is. Mysterious, really. But anyhow it stirs interest in me. Can you please add more for this content?

Ahhhh, the days of the LSD. Fortunately not many young people know about this today. Regardless, there are still tons of other drugs that teens today are experimenting on and that is just sad.

It has been old, the reason why I don't know about it. If it is late 50's, then surely I have no idea, and I don't even hear any about LSD.

Technology wasn't developed before as it is now. Teens was more into what can they do, very active in society and hence more likely to be in a drug inclined world…I'm not saying there's not much drug nowadays but before, there was very few options for young generations to go around so trying everything new is a thrill for them.

    @ Rachel:
What you really said is true. Teens nowadays are more exploratory and they tend to make the wrong choices.
