many paths

“There are many paths to the top of the mountain, but the view is always the same.”

Chinese Proverb

The beauty of life is often found in its diversity and complexity. When I observe the variety in human beings, I am endlessly fascinated and bewildered by just how diverse we can be sometimes.

We all have different interests, values, goals, beliefs, and experiences that guide our lives down a certain path. And most of these paths aren’t objectively “right” or “wrong” – they are just different.

While there are many paths we can choose from – the key for every individual is that they discover what path works best for them and makes them the most happy.

The path that works best for someone else may not be the path that works best for you. It’s important to keep this in mind so that we aren’t afraid to deviate from others and find our own way.

And the path that works best for you may not be the path that works best for someone else. It’s important to keep this in mind so that we can respect the many paths that people may choose throughout their lives.

As long as someone’s path doesn’t get in the way of anyone else’s path, then we shouldn’t dislike someone just because they are on a different path from us. Instead, we should encourage everyone to find their own version of happiness.

Stop for a second and consider all the ways your life would be different if you had different interests, values, goals, beliefs, and experiences. How would’ve your choices been different? What different paths might’ve you pursued?

There are many paths we could’ve taken in the past and there are many paths still to choose from in the future. Our paths are never set in stone. They are dynamic and unique to us – always changing direction a little bit here and a little bit there.
