flying boulder ritual

Learn the “Flying Boulder” ritual – a simple one-minute visualization to motivate you to overcome life’s obstacles.

I plan to share more of my self-improvement “rituals” with you guys.

These will be fun and easy exercises that use symbolism and your imagination to transform your attitude and mindset. Most of them lake less than 5 minutes to do, so you can easily integrate them into your morning routine.

Here’s a new exercise I’ve been experimenting with recently that I’ve named “Flying Boulder.” Here’s how to do it…

The Flying Boulder Ritual

“Flying Boulder” is a ritual designed to help you overcome obstacles and stay motivated in the face of hardship. It’s a ritual that represents grit, hard work, and resilience.

No materials are needed for this one, but you will need a little space to move around.

How to do this ritual, step-by-step instructions:

  • Stand in the middle of the room (or outside).
  • Imagine there is a huge boulder sitting in front of you. It can be as big as you want.
  • This boulder symbolizes all of the obstacles and struggles that stand in your way. Take a moment to visualize and recognize how this boulder sits in the way of where you want to go in your life – how it prevents you from moving forward.
  • Stand up straight, looking forward, and take 3 deep breaths.
  • With super slow movements, bend down and place your hands under the boulder. Hold the position and take 3 deep breaths.
  • Slowly, slowly, slowly begin lifting the boulder. Feel it in your legs, arms, hands, and back as you slowly raise the boulder off the ground and above your head.
    • Note: Think of your movement as if you are switching from one Yoga pose to another. From the starting position of “squatting with hands under boulder” ➜ “standing straight and holding boulder above head.”

  • Once you have the boulder lifted over your head, look forward and take another 3 deep breaths.
  • Take a moment, then begin to throw the boulder in slow motion. Start with stepping forward and then swinging your arms forward. Again, feel it in your arms, legs, and back as you arch back and propel the big rock forward.
  • Complete your movement until you are standing up straight again and looking forward. Take another 3 deep breaths.
  • Watch as the boulder continues to fly through the air, far, far away…
  • When the boulder finally crashes to the ground, visualize it shattering into a million pieces.

Extra tips and advice

This self-improvement “ritual” can literally take less than a minute.

To make the most of it, it helps to really get into the moment and play pretend. I often “stumble” with the boulder a little bit and pretend “struggle” while lifting it, as if it’s the biggest rock I’ve ever picked up in my life.

Many of these “rituals” could be described as acting. It’s about creating an experience through your imagination. Play pretend. Have fun with it. And most importantly, don’t take them too seriously.

I recommend trying to do this ritual every morning. I personally do it right before I jump in the shower. It’s easy. Leave a note in the bathroom to remind you. I also like looking in the mirror as I do it, as it helps me get into my body language and facial expressions more.

I look forward to sharing more self-improvement “rituals” with you soon!
