“Magical thinking” is an unrealistic view of love influenced by pop culture. We create a picture of the “perfect romance” with our “perfect partner,” and then we get angry at ourselves and the world when no one meets our expectations.

The “broaden and build theory” is an idea in psychology that positive emotions allow us to expand our awareness in new ways and tap into mental resources that aren’t always available to us.
